The weather was pretty decent today so I decided to go out and photograph my first sunset of 2011. There were some clouds in the west which was even more incentive to head out with my camera. I didn’t have time to go very far so I decided on just quick trip to the River Ponds below Tuttle Creek Lake. I checked the location of sunset using The Photographer’s Ephemeris and found a good location where I could get the sun setting across a pretty open stretch of the river ponds. The photograph above was what I was greeted with when I got there. Gotta love The Photographer’s Ephemeris!
The texture in the ice at the shoreline was really reflecting the setting sun nicely and made for a great subject.
You can see the textures in the ice better in this shot. I really liked the curve of the shoreline in this view and how it pulls your eye into the scene.
There are a lot of geese at the river ponds right now so after photographing the sunset I moved to a different location to try and make some photographs of the geese silhouetted against the sunset. The geese didn’t cooperate that well but I still made a few photographs of them I was happy with.
All in all not a bad way to start off my 2011 photography!
