This year my wife and I decided to create some new holiday traditions. One of those was going out on Christmas Eve morning for a hike on a nearby trail. We had some heavy fog over the holidays including the morning of Christmas Eve. We both enjoy being out on foggy days, so we decided to head out to Tuttle Creek Lake to wander around and take a morning walk on a favorite trail.
I love taking photos on foggy mornings. Fog adds such a great mood to the world and gives familiar views a sense of mystery. There is always a wonderful sense of stillness to the world on a foggy morning as well.
The way the fog hides the world also made the trees in the park standout. I liked the way the shapes of the trees standout on mornings like this.
The still conditions also created nice reflections along the shoreline. I was drawn to this scene initially by the reflections and only then noticed the great blue heron in the water.
Eventually the heron flew off and it was quickly swallowed up by the fog. I wonder what it would be like to be flying through fog like that.
Watching the Canada geese drifting through the fog also was a bit dreamlike. There were several groups of geese on the water, but I liked this pair that seemed to be floating off on their own. I think I liked this photo for its sense of the geese drifting off into the unknown or maybe drifting off into a dream.
After driving through the park and walking on a short trail, we decided to head out into the Flint Hills. The fog was too thick to really photograph the open prairie and the landscapes but just like in the park, the fog was isolating and helping to showcase the trees we past by. This ended up being a very peaceful morning and a great way to start off Christmas Eve.
As always, thanks for stopping by my blog! If you would like to see more of my photography, you can visit my online galleries at: https://scott-bean.pixels.com/
